These details can be found in two autobiographies: Sultan-ut Tawarikh and Tarikh-i-Khudadadi, housed in the India Office Library, London. Noted historian KM Panicker chanced upon Tipu's correspondence at the India Office Library. These have since been published. Take a letter (March 22, 1788) written to Abdul Khadar: "Over 12,000 Hindus were honoured with Islam ... Local Hindus should be brought before you and then converted to Islam. No Namboodri should be spared."

In a letter (December 14, 1788), he said to his army commander in Calicut: "You should capture and kill all Hindus. Those below 20 years may be kept in prison and 5,000 from the rest should be killed hanging from treetops". Writing on January 19, 1790, to Badroos Saman Khan, he said: "I have achieved a great victory recently in Malabar and over four lakh Hindus were converted to Islam. I am now determined to march against the cursed Raman Nair." Tipu issued orders in different parts of Malabar: "All means, truth or falsehood, fraud or force, should be employed to effect their (Hindu) universal conversion to Islam" (Historical Sketches of the South of India in an attempt to trace the History of Mysore, Mark Wilks Vol II, page 120).

Tipu corresponded with Zaman Shah, grandson Ahmad Shah Abdali and ruler of Afghanistan before the Third Mysore War (1792) and continued to do so till 1798. These letters were translated by Kabir Kausar in The History of Tipu Sultan. In one place, he wrote: "My exalted ambition has for its object a holy war ... In the midst of this land the Almighty protects this trace of Muhammadan dominion like the Ark of Noah and cuts short the extended arm of the abandoned infidel". In a letter dated February 5, 1797: "We should unite in carrying on a holy war against the enemies of our religion.... Thine armies shall ... render us victorious."

What Fra Bartolomaco, a Portuguese traveller and historian, saw in Malabar in 1790, he recorded in Voyage to East Indies: "Most of the men and women were hanged in Calicut ... That barbarian Tipu Sultan tied naked Christians and Hindus to the legs of elephants ... till the bodies ... were torn to prices. Temples and churches were ordered to be burnt down, desecrated and destroyed ... I myself helped many victims to cross the Varappuzha river" (pgs 141-142).

The sword of Tipu Sultan carried an inscription in Persian: "My victorious Sabre is lightening for the destruction of the unbelievers. Thou art our Lord, make him victorious who promotes the faith of Muhammad. Confound him, who refuses the faith of Muhammad and withold us from those who are so inclined" (History of Mysore, CH Rao, Vol III, p 1073). The Mysore Gazetteer also provides details about Tipu's destruction of over 800 temples in South India.

WOOING A GIRL PART II

When you try to woo a girl be careful of certain things...some of them are given below.....

One thing girls can't stand is when guys are fake. size=7>Christmas before Christ?

This is christmas time...some interesting facts.....

Just what are the origins of Christmas? Did it really originate among pagan peoples before Jesus' birth, as Mr.Carey said?

History, in fact, shows that Christmas predates Christ by many centuries. Tertullian, an early cleric of the Catholic Church (A.D. 155-220), taught that Christmas and the New Year's season were pagan—in other words, they were based on the polytheistic religions of ancient Rome and its predecessors. He acknowledged that this infamous annual pagan season stretched from early December to early January. To the church, Tertullian railed against the entire season as a time of wholly heathen practices.

Born a non-Christian, Tertullian was sent by his parents to Rome to study law. There, according to Walter Elwell, "he was converted to Christianity and rejected his licentious mode of life. Returning to Carthage, he gave himself passionately to the propagation and defense of the gospel [as he understood it]. Ultimately disenchanted with the laxity of the Roman Church, he broke away and espoused the rigorous asceticism and enthusiasm of Montanism ... [He weighed the] practical aspects of Christian living [against] the failings of early Catholicism and [offered] polemic arguments against the heathen and heretics" (Tertullian, 2001, p. 1176).

Tertullian defended the Christianity of his day against the growing influx of heathen practices, particularly in the Christmas and New Year's season. In his comments we see reference to the pagans' holiday trappings that have passed down largely unchanged to our day: "On your day of gladness, we [Christians] neither cover our doorposts with wreaths, nor intrude upon the day with lamps. At the call of public festivity, you consider it a proper thing to decorate your house like some new brothel. We are accused of a lower sacrilege because we do not celebrate along with you the holidays of the Caesars in a manner forbidden alike by modesty, decency, and purity" (quoted by David Bercot, A Dictionary of Early Christian Beliefs, 1998, p. 342).

Continuing his comments on the season of Christmas and New Year's, Tertullian wrote: "The Roman traitors clad their doorposts with green and branching laurels. They smoked up their porches with lofty and brilliant lamps" (ibid.). Addressing Catholic Christians of his day about Christmas, he admonished, "Furthermore, you Christians [should] have no acquaintance with the festivals of the Gentiles" (ibid.).

Tertullian also contrasted the pagans' faithfulness to their pagan festivities with Christians' faithlessness and their tendency to compromise their beliefs: "The Saturnalia, New Year, Midwinter festivals, and Matronalia are frequented by us! Presents come and go! There are New Year's gifts! Games join their noise! Banquets join their din! The pagans are more faithful to their own sect. For, even if they had known them, they would not have shared the Lord's Day or Pentecost with us. For they would fear lest they would appear to be Christians. Yet, we are not apprehensive that we might appear to be pagans" (ibid., emphasis added).

What an incredible admission by an early Latin-church leader. The pagans were more faithful to their traditions than the church was to its traditions. Tertullian chastised professing Christians of his day by reminding them they were following pagan traditions that predated Christ's birth.

HOW TO WOO A GIRL

FEW WORDS TO YOUR GIRLFREIND WHICH COULD USED FOR WOOING HER AS WELL AS TO LOOK FUNNY

Baby, if you were words on a page, you'd be what they call fine print

Baby, somebody better call God, cuz he's missing an angel!

Baby, you must be a broom, cause you just swept me off my feet.

Baby did you fart, 'cause you blow me away!

.Baby, you're the next contestant in the game of love.

Can i get your picture to prove to all my friends that angels really do exist?

Close hand with nothing inside and give it to her) It's my breath from when you took it away (open palm while saying this).

Coffee? He loved to make people smile, he loved his family, he loved his darling black lab Magic, and he loved watching the fireworks at the Thrissur pooram. He was an amazing artist and my best friend.

Some people are hard to love, but my cousin, Nikhil, wasn't. He was born in 1978, and a few years later was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. When most kids were losing their first teeth, Scott got his first wheelchair. When he got his first wheelchair, he and I went out to the grassy field in front of our high school to see how fast it could go. Scott affectionately called it his chariott.

We played board games and chess was his speciality. We played (and won) almost every video game ever created. We tried as many brands of chewing gum as we could find, We drew pictures for each other, until he was too weak to draw. The best Christmas present I ever received was a carefully constructed sketch he made of a candy shop. It must have taken him days.

He taught me things I couldn't have learned myself: to appreciate being able to turn on a light switch and feed myself. He showed me it was definitely okay to be silly sometimes; laughing together was what got us through the rough days. He taught me to be kind, and how really to listen. He also taught me that true faith doesn't depend on circumstances.

Nikhil got pneumonia sophomore in that year. He was too weak to attend school after that, but earned his diploma in 2003 in a private ceremony at his home. He couldn't leave his bed for the ceremony and afterwards, we watched TV. The noise of his breathing equipment was almost deafening, but we were used to it; it was what kept him alive.

His last two days were rough; the breathing machine made it impossible for him to talk and he didn't open his eyes. As I had done almost every holiday, I decorated his room with baloons and other stuff. I talked to him as I hung each ornament: "Do you like this one here? No? Me, neither." After I finished the decorating, I tried to pull myself together and worked on his scrapbook. Nikhil loved to scrapbook. A few minutes later, someone rushed into the living room crying, "We lost his heartbeat! We lost the heartbeat!" I frantically rushed to his bedside, gently held his hand, and tried to talk to him, but I could hardly get the words from my throat. He didn't like to see me cry, but I cried that night. He died at age 27.

But, he can walk now. He can run, he can jump, he can sing, and he can paint the skies to his heart's content. He is one of my two favourite writers...the other one is Somerset Maugham. I searched books ,web and certain literary columns from old news papers to find out the background of his inspiration to write this novel...I got a few....this was a story which gives you word by word explanation of how south america was formed from a tribal way of living to the modern way of life.

. On January 1965 Marquez and his family were driving to Acapulco for a vacation, when inspiration suddenly struck him: he had found his tone. For the first time in twenty years, a stroke of lightning clearly revealed the voice of Macondo. He would later write:

"All of a sudden -- I don't know why -- I had this illumination on how to write the book.... I had it so completely formed, that right there I could have dictated the first chapter word by word to a typist."

And later, regarding that illumination:

"The tone that I eventually used in One Hundred Years of Solitude was based on the way my grandmother used to tell stories. She told things that sounded supernatural and fantastic, but she told them with complete naturalness.... What was most important was the expression she had on her face. She did not change her expression at all when telling her stories and everyone was surprised. In previous attempts to write, I tried to tell the story without believing in it. I discovered that what I had to do was believe in them myself and write them with the same expression with which my grandmother told them: with a brick face."

He turned the car immediately around and headed home. There, he put Mercedes in charge of the family, and he retired to his room to write.
And write he did. He wrote every day for eighteen months, consuming up to six packs of cigarettes a day. To provide for the family, the car was sold, and almost every household appliance was pawned so Mercedes could feed the family and keep him supplied with a constant river of paper and cigarettes. His friends started to call his smoke-filled room "the Cave of the Mafia," and after a while the whole community began helping out, as if they collectively understood that he was creating something remarkable. Credit was extended, appliances loaned, debts forgiven. After nearly a year of work, García Márquez sent the first three chapters to Carlos Fuentes, who publicly declared: "I have just read eighty pages from a master." Towards the end of the novel, as yet unnamed, anticipation grew, and the buzz of success was in the air. As finishing touches, he placed himself, his wife, and his friends in the novel, and then discovered a name on the last page: Cien años de soledad. Finally he emerged from the Cave, grasping thirteen hundred pages in his hands, exhausted and almost poisoned from nicotine, over ten thousand dollars in debt, and perhaps only a few pages shy of a mental and physical breakdown. And yet, he was happy -- indeed, euphoric. In need of postage, he pawned a few more household implements and sent it off to the publisher in Buenos Aires.
One Hundred Years of Solitude was published in June 1967, and within a week all 8000 copies were gone. From that point on, success was assured, and the novel sold out a new printing each week, going on to sell half a million copies within three years. It was translated into over two dozen languages, and it won four international prizes. Success had come at last. Gabriel García Márquez was 39 years old when the world first learned his name.
Suddenly he was beset by fame. Fan mail, awards, interviews, appearances -- it was obvious that his life had changed. In 1969, the novel won the Chianchiano Prize in Italy and was named the Best Foreign Book in France. In 1970, it was published in English and was chosen as one of the best twelve books of the year in the United States. Two years later he was awarded the Rómulo Gallegos Prize and the Neustadt Prize, and in 1971, a Peruvian writer named Mario Vargas Llosa even published a book about his life and work. To counter all this exposure, García Márquez simply returned to writing.

BAD MOUTHING / BLOGGING

The other day one of the broad minded people in our circle called me a bad mouth.
